Facebook Privacy
Or lack of privacy!
The growth of Facebook into the huge community has been so phenomenal as to be almost not believable.
It should be obvious that sooner or later there would be enormous amounts of money to made somehow, some way from this huge repository of information.
Users just want it to be free. But it costs a lot, I meant A LOT of money to keep Facebook going. So how are they going to make money? Several ways, but the most controversial way may be the selling of profile information.
This is clearly not in the best interests of Facebook members. To make matters worse, Facebook keeps changing their privacy policies. Each time these policies are changed, all of the initial settings a member has chosen are set back to 'everyone', which means members have to reset the settings. Even more troubling is how all of the settings are so hard to find.
If the most troubling setting is the hardest to find, why does that make alarms bells go off for savvy users? It's because Facebook doesn't want users to find this setting because this is where the $$$ for Facebook comes in.
If you belong to Facebook, make sure your privacy settings won't allow your private posts to be seen all over the Internet. Business Insider has the way the settings should be. Read the article and then click each screenshot to see how those settings should be set. Facebook keeps changing the privacy settings, so what you see today may not be the same tomorrow.
You can test your settings at reclaimprivacy.
I've thought about deleting my account. But there is some doubt it will really be deleted. So I have minimal stuff in my profile and if I want to contact someone in my Facebook, I just email them off-list.
Something else to think about, Think Before You Friend.
